One may infer the following from the above data on internet penetration and the internet connections for the various States/UTs of India:
1.    As per 2011 census, India’s internet penetration is about 3.1% with about 7.73 million connections.
2.    It is generally seen that the penetration is highest among UTs like we see for Chandigarh (18.8%), NCT Delhi (17.6%), Puducherry (6%) etc.  Delhi is having about 0.59 million connections.
3.    The lowest number of connections are in Union Territories of Lakshadweep (only 332) with penetration of 3.1%.
4.    Maharashtra state is having the highest number of internet connections as well significant Internet penetration of 5.8%. Only Maharashtra is having over one million internet connections.
5.    Goa State is having the highest penetration of 12.7% among the various States of India.
6.    Kerala State is having the second highest penetration of 6.3% among the various States of India.
7.    Over half a million connections are in each of the States: Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
8.    Concentration of Internet Connections is in South of India followed by western India at present.
9.    Eastern States are lagging far behind in possession of Internet as compared to the other regions of India.
Uttar Pradesh is heading with highest number of internet connections in the Northern India, but with a very low penetration of less than 2%.
