The highlights
of the above data after its analysis are:
Ø In
India where there are many households which do not have roof over their head,
about 25 million census houses were found to be vacant.
Ø These
vacant houses comprise seven and a half percent of total number of houses in
India.
Ø The
maximum such vacancy was noted in GOA and was about 22%.
Ø The
other States with two digit vacancy were: Gujarat (13.7%), Himachal Pradesh
(11.8%), Maharashtra (11.2%), Kerala (10.6%), Rajasthan (10.2%) and Karnataka (10%).
Ø The UTs
with two digit vacancy were: Dadra
& Nagar Haveli (17.3%), Daman & Diu (16.3%), Lakshadweep (16%),
A & N Islands (13.7%) and NCT
Delhi ( 11.1%).
Over 3.7 million
houses in Maharashtra were vacant. Even
in Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh over two million houses were found to be
vacant.
