IN EIGHT HIGH FOCUS STATES OF INDIA OVER 4.6 MILLION URBAN HOUSEHOLDS ARE STILL DEFECATING IN OPEN

It may be seen from the above simple calculations that in the eight EAG States, urban population is over 117.3 million and they form about 23.5 million households.  About eighty and a half percent of them are having access to Toilet Facility i.e. over 4.6 million urban households or about 22.6 million people are still defecating in the open.  It could also be observed that in the hill state of Uttarakhand, it is merely 4.6 percent of the households live in such a condition.  Chhattishgarh followed by Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh are worst placed in this respect.
