* Annual Health Survey, 2010-11; + Census 2011
It
may be seen from the above simple calculations that in the eight EAG States, population
is over 555 million and they form about 110 million households. One third of the households are having access
to Toilet Facility i.e. over 73.5 million urban households or about 370 million
people are still defecating in the open in these states of India. It could also be observed that in the hill
state of Uttarakhand, it is 22.3 percent of the households live in such a condition
and is being considered better part of this world in this respect. Odisha followed by Bihar, Jharkhand and Chhattishgarh
are worst placed in this respect.
