Here below we try to estimate the girls being killed in
mothers womb in a year in India.
Let us consider the following official data by GOI.
India’s Population ( Census 2011) : 1210193422
CBR ( SRS 2010)
: 22.1
Sex Ratio at Birth (Females per 1000 males) in SRS
2010 :
905
Number of Births (assuming the same CDR in the census year)
= 26745275
Number of Male Births (Sex Ratio 905 at Birth in the
census year) = 14039514
Number of Male Births (Sex Ratio 905 at Birth in the
census year) = 12705760
The estimate of the girls
being killed in mothers womb in 2011 in India is around 1333754 (the difference
between the males and females born) and the CBR would be then 23.2 and the
number of births would have been more by 1333754 giving Sex Ratio of 1000.
In spite of PNDT Act in
India, over 1.3 million girl babies are estimated to have been killed in mother’s
womb in 2011 in India.
This killing of baby girls in India in a year (2011) is about
the population of Goa State of India or one quarter of the population of
Singapore.
Thus, by flouting the
PNDT Act, quite a few Indians are solving their countries’ population problem to
some extent by killing their female babies for more thirst for male child
instead adopting legal family planning means.
