Twenty Seven million persons suffer from Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) in a period of fifteen days in India


One Large Scale Annual Health Survey has been conducted in the year 2010-11 for nine States namely, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand and Assam.  Fact Sheets for the same were released.  Here below the prevalence of this Acute Illness in these States have been given per one lakh (one tenth of a million) persons.

Using population estimates from Census 2011, the number of people suffered from ARI during a period of fifteen days has been estimated around 13 millions in these nine states for the year 2011.  This is the average effected persons by ARI in these states of India within duration of 15 days of the year.  Occurrence of ARI in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar states was to more than nine million persons in a period of fifteen days. If one assumes the average prevalence rate of these nine states as the prevalence rate in India, the average number of persons affected by this disease in India would be around 26.8 millions in a period of fifteen days during a year.
