The prevalence of Acute Illness in
Uttarakhand for the year (2007-09) was 8448 per lakh population i.e. around 8.4%.
The prevalence was higher in rural areas (8.7%) as compared to urban areas (7.7%).
Further, the prevalence of Acute Illness was observed higher among females (8.9%)
as compared to males (8%). The trend was similar in both rural and urban areas.
The details on persons suffering from
specific acute illnesses such as Diarrhea, Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) and Fever are presented

The prevalence of fever alone was 5.2%
it being higher in rural areas (5.3%) as compared to urban areas (4.9%).
Diarrhea/ Dysentery had prevalence of 0.68% it being again higher in rural
areas (0.77%) as compared to urban areas (0.45%). The prevalence of ARI was
much higher at 2%.These 3 diseases together account for about 93% of acute
illnesses in rural areas and 94% in urban areas as could be seen from the table
below:
