There
are eight Empowered Action Group (EAG) States, namely, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh,
Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and three sister states : Uttaranchal, Chhattisgarh
and Jharkhand. It was seen that the EAG
States had poor indicators on demographic stabilization at the time of
launching the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM). Here below we intend to have some idea of status
of Chronic Illnesses in these Group of States individually and also in the
State of Assam. One Large Scale Annual Health Survey has been conducted in the
year 2010-11 for eight EAG States besides the state of Assam, the major
North-Eastern State of India. Here below
the prevalence of Chronic Diseases in the various EAG States and in the Assam
North-East Major State have been given per one lakh (one tenth of a million)

It
can be seen that prevalence of Chronic Illness is much higher in Assam (around 10%)
than in any of the EAG Group of States (next being in Bihar which is around 8.76%). Surprisingly, Uttarakhand has a high degree
of chronic illness of 8%, more than that in Uttar Pradesh where it is about
7.4%. Rajasthan has the least prevalence
(around 2%) of chronic illnesses. Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and followed by Madhya
Pradesh have almost the similar prevalence (around 4%) of chronic illnesses.

inhabitants of most of these states except of Odisha and TB is the chronic disease which is effecting least the residents of
most of these states except in
Bihar where Diabetes’ prevalence is the
minimum most. Rajasthan is the state
where Asthma’s prevalence is little bit higher than Arthritis and hypertension.
Diabetes is seen to be more effecting the inhabitants
of Uttarakhand, followed by Odisha and then by Chhattisgarh.

of hypertension disease is highest
in Assam, followed by Odisha and then Uttarakhand. It is observed to be least prevalent in
Rajasthan out these nine states.
Tuberculosis is effecting the residents of Bihar most, followed by those of Uttar
Pradesh and then by those of Assam.
