As per the estimates of under 5 mortality rates just released for all the major states and at All – India level for the year 2011, in India number of children dying before attaining age five was to the order of one and a half million in the year 2011.  To be more exact, number of such deaths were 1.45 million.  Highest number of such deaths are occuring in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan in this order. The number of such deaths in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh were 0.405 million, 0.17 million and 0.15 million respectively.  These constitute double digit percentages to all-India such deaths as 28%, 12% and 10% respectively.  Rajasthan is next in the row and 8% of such deaths in India are in this state.
The number of live births in 2011 of infants which resuted into deaths before attaining age of one year in India were around 1.2 millions.  Highest number of such deaths are occuring in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan in this order.
