One may note that in India about 50 centenarians were living in every one lakh population in India. The urban cities and towns have more centenarians than in its villages on the average and  more female centenarians are seen than males. This suggests that females live longer than males in India.

The highest number of centenarians are in its northern states, followed by in western and then in eastern and north eastern states.  The lowest number of centenarians are in its southern states.   In all its regions, female centenarians outnumber the male centenarians and the same is seen irrespective of their place of residence.  The difference between centenarians (per lakh of population) beteen northern and southern states/region is very significant.  Among northern states, Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of centenarians and the number is about 100 per lakh of its population and lowest being in NCT Delhi and is about 23 per lakh of its population. Among southern states, Andhra Pradesh has the highest number of centenarians and the number is about 33 per lakh of its population and lowest being in Punducherry and is about 14 per lakh of its population. Out of various states in India, Mizoram is having the least number of centenarians and the same is about 11 per lakh of its population.
