As per the estimates of under 5
mortality rates just released for all the major states and at All – India level
for the year 2011, in India number of children dying before attaining age five was
to the order of one and a half million in the year 2011. To be more exact, number of such deaths were
1.45 million. Highest number of such
deaths are occuring in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan in
this order. The number of such deaths in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya
Pradesh were 0.405 million, 0.17 million and 0.15 million respectively. These constitute double digit percentages to
all-India such deaths as 28%, 12% and 10% respectively. Rajasthan is next in the row and 8% of such
deaths in India are in this state.
The number of live births in 2011 of
infants which resuted into deaths before attaining age of one year in India
were around 1.2 millions. Highest number
of such deaths are occuring in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and
Rajasthan in this order. The number of such deaths in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and
Madhya Pradesh were 0.32 million, 0.12 million and 0.10 million
respectively. These constitute percentages
to all-India such deaths as 27%, 11% and 10% respectively. Rajasthan is next in
the row and 8% of such deaths below one year in India are in this state.
Thus,
if we concentrate and try to reduce infant and child mortality in Uttar
Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan considerably, India will be able
to won more than half the battle on this front.
