Delhi most uncaring city: Survey by HelpAge India

A recent study by HelpAge India has observed from a survey of ten cities that Delhi is the most uncaring city for elders (probably having age 60 years or over).  The survey was carried out in just 200 households selected from 20 middle and upper class localities in 10 cities.  The cities are mostly multi million cities and these are Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Nagpur, Kanpur and Madurai.  The share in the sample for each of the cities under study is meagre.  The share is also same for all the cities irrespective of their number of households having at least one elder.  Also they have left out the low income group localities.

The observations made seem to be quite generalized in this news item.  On the basis of such a sample design, such generalized comments are having very little ground.  I wish a better sample design should have been taken with more sample size in each of the cities considered for making the comments to be valid for the entire and all the cities under study.
