The prevalence of Acute Illness in Chhattisgarh
for the year 2008 was 9746 per lakh population i.e. around 9.7%. The prevalence
was higher in rural areas (10.1%) as compared to urban areas (8.5%). Further,
the prevalence of Acute Illness was observed higher among females (10.2%) as
compared to males (9.3%). The trend was similar in both rural and urban areas.
The details on persons suffering from
specific acute illnesses such as Diarrhea, Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) and Fever are presented
as under:

The prevalence of fever alone was 5.2%
it being higher in rural areas (5.6%) as compared to urban areas (3.7%).
Diarrhea/ Dysentery had prevalence of 1.1% it being again higher in rural areas
(1.2%) as compared to urban areas (0.72%), but the prevalence of ARI was much higher
at 2.9% and this being higher in urban areas (3.5%) as compared to rural areas
(2.7%).
These 3 diseases together account for
about 94% of acute illnesses in both rural and urban areas as could be seen
from the table below:
